Why 857 Citations? The Math Behind Local SEO Dominance
When we tell agents we submit 857+ citations as part of our service, the first question is always "Why 857?"
The answer is rooted in data, not arbitrary decisions.
What Are Citations?
A citation is any online mention of your business's name, address, and phone number (NAP). Citations appear on business directories, social platforms, review sites, and data aggregators.
The Diminishing Returns Curve
Our analysis of thousands of local businesses across multiple industries found that citation impact follows a logarithmic curve. The first 100 citations have the most impact. Citations 100-500 provide meaningful but diminishing returns. And citations 500-900 provide the edge that separates page 1 from the #1 position.
Why Not More?
Beyond approximately 900 citations, the quality of available directories drops significantly, and the ROI approaches zero. 857 represents the sweet spot where we've exhausted all high-quality and medium-quality citation sources.
Quality Over Quantity
Not all citations are created equal. We prioritize directories with high domain authority, real estate relevance, and proper data distribution networks.
